Courtyard dinner
For the host who wants guests to lean in closer. Hung in pairs over a long table, these cast a light that flatters faces and makes silverware gleam without ever feeling like a spotlight.
Hand-folded paper lanterns for courtyards, night markets, and the dinner that lasts until midnight.
Commission a lanternI started Field Lantern Atelier after too many dinners where the overhead porch light killed the mood. A paper lantern does something electric light cannot: it drops a small, warm pool of light exactly where people are gathered, and leaves the rest of the garden to the dark.
Every lantern is folded by hand in my Los Angeles studio from heavyweight washi and cotton rag paper. No two are identical. The slight unevenness of the creases is what makes the glow feel alive.
Three kinds of evenings my lanterns were made for.

Brighter than a candle, softer than a bulb. Vendors use them to draw the eye without competing with the goods. They travel flat and open in seconds.
Strung between olive trees or set along a stone path, they turn an ordinary backyard into a space that feels considered, intentional, and slightly magical.
A simple process designed around the way hosts actually plan evenings.
Send me a note about your space, your event, and how many lanterns you need. I work with hosts, planners, and vendors across California.
Select from natural fibers in cream, stone, or pale ochre. Each paper type changes how the light reads—some glow, some filter, some shimmer.
Every piece is cut, creased, and assembled by hand. Allow two to three weeks for small orders, longer for large installations.
Lanterns ship flat with cotton wicks or LED inserts. Open them, hang them, and watch the room change.
Tell me about your table, your courtyard, or your market stall. I'll respond within two days.
